The Process
Many believe they need God to do a miracle in their life, but what they really need is a transformation in how they think. If God were to give them the miracle they want without first changing their belief system (and way of thinking), they would actually sabotage God's work in their life.
Maintaining a breakthrough is as important as getting a breakthrough. God's desire is that we not only inherit His promises, but that we are prepared to handle the weight of those blessings. God told Moses in Exodus 23, "Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared...I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land” (23:20,29-30).
This is why transformation often happens "little by little.” It’s learning to believe and think differently so we can properly steward His blessings without them overwhelming us. Bill Johnson put it this way, “God disciplines us so that His blessing won't break us.”
And ultimately, all true change takes time. It’s in the process where we learn to believe, think, and act like God. 3 John 1:2 says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” To the degree that our soul (mind, will, and emotions) prospers, is the degree in which every other area of our life will prosper. Soul prosperity is a lifelong process of replacing lies with truth, until we “know the truth, and the truth will set [us] free” (John 8:32 ESV). Freedom is waiting on the other side of us learning to believe and think like Heaven!
